Bowie County, Texas: tax suits in district court
Bowie County district courts took in 289 new tax cases in the year ending August 31, 2025, closed 270, and had 194 still active at year end. Across FY2011–FY2025 there were 4,347 filings, an average of 290 a year, ranging from 443 (FY2013) down to 211 (FY2024).
The pending pile has shrunk by more than half since FY2011, when 499 cases were open at year end, because dispositions (4,644 over the period) outran filings. Tax cases are a large slice of the civil docket here: 38.2% of all new civil filings in FY2025, close to the 15-year average of 39.1%. In FY2025, 152 cases ended in a judgment after a bench trial and 114 were non-suited or dismissed by the plaintiff, the usual result when an account is paid.

Bowie County. Texas Office of Court Administration, Court Activity Database, “District Court Activity Detail” for Bowie County, one report for each fiscal year (September 1–August 31) from FY2011 through FY2025, exported to Excel on October 12, 2026. From the civil section we read the “Tax” column: pending at start, New Cases Filed, Total Cases Disposed, After Non-Jury Trial, Non-Suited or Dismissed by Plaintiff, pending at end. Civil filings come from the Total column. The share column is our arithmetic.
Miller County. Arkansas Commissioner of State Lands, post-sale results page for Miller County, retrieved October 12, 2026. The page lists owner and bidder names; we publish counts and dollar totals only, with no names or parcel numbers. Status codes on that page: SL (sold) and RE (redeemed).
Caveats
- Bowie figures cover district courts only and count cases, not parcels; one suit can bundle several accounts.
- OCA's opening pending count may differ from the prior year's closing count because of clerk corrections.
- The Miller summary covers one auction. Amounts due on unsold parcels are as listed by the Commissioner and may change with redemptions.
- Nothing has been estimated or filled in.
